ALDI LAUNCHES SPARKLING TWIST ON TRENDING PORTUGUESE ‘GREEN WINE’

29 January, 2025
  • Aldi’s new Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde is available in stores now for just £6.99
  • The new sparkler has had the seal of approval from Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, who described it as “the perfect hybrid between a fruity wine and a fizz”
  • The supermarket has also brought back its popular Ribolla Gialla, available in stores now

Is this the orange wine of 2025? Drinks Retailer of the Year[1], Aldi, is adding a touch of sparkle to the growing ‘green wine’ trend with its new sparkling Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde (£6.99, 75cl), available in stores now.

The term "green wine" refers not only to the wine's youthful, fruity character but also to the landscape of the Minho region in northeastern Portugal, where it originates. The cooler climate contributes to the wine's elegance and zestiness, and its blend of indigenous Portuguese white grape varieties results in a complex and delightful flavour profile.

Aldi’s new refreshing take on Portugal's beloved wine offers the best of both worlds. Given the green light from Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, she describes it as “the perfect hybrid between a fruity wine and a fizz, with notes of apricot, peach, nectarine, and mango” - ideal for those seeking a lighter alternative to traditional sparkling wines – think zesty lime and crisp green apple.

In fact, Sam suggests it delivers more flavour than Prosecco, with a softer effervescence: “Offering fresh flavours similar to that of Prosecco but more so, it offers a unique and exciting twist on a beloved Portuguese classic. Perfect if you are feeling a bit fizzed out after the festive season but still crave something refreshing and flavourful.”

Shoppers will also be delighted to hear that Aldi is bringing back its popular Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla (£6.99, 75cl),available in stores now.Described as “sipping on sunshine” by Sam Caporn, it is the perfect gem to toast to warmer days ahead.

The Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde and the Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla are available in stores now.
