Aldi to pay store and distribution colleagues a 10% bonus

Aldi has today announced enhanced pay for its amazing colleagues, who have been working tirelessly throughout this extremely busy time. Store and distribution colleagues will receive a 10% bonus on hours worked, effective from 9th March 2020.

It has also announced dedicated shopping times for Emergency Workers and increased support for small suppliers.

  • Aldi will open between 9.30am-10.00am on Sundays* solely for key workers in the NHS, Police and Fire Service. Eligible customers will be able to take priority at checkouts when they open at 10am. Entry to Aldi stores between 9.30am – 10.00am* will be with relevant ID only.

*8.30am-9.00am in Scotland

  • As part of its ongoing support for small suppliers, Aldi has today announced it will reduce payment terms so that any supplier with a turnover of less than £1m will now be paid immediately. This will benefit over 1,000 Aldi suppliers.

Previous steps Aldi has taken include:

  • Aldi has made a number of financial commitments to key partners, including Neighbourly, which distributes surplus food and other donations to those in need, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Age UK
  • All nappies and paper products (ie. toilet/kitchen roll) are restricted to two items per customer. All other products will remain restricted to four items per customer, with the exception of non-food Specialbuys, Easter products and fresh flowers which have no restrictions
  • All stores’ opening hours have been shortened slightly to close at 8pm, instead of 10pm, to give our colleagues some additional rest and allow the stores to be restocked at their best every day

ALDI ANNOUNCES £650 MILLION INVESTMENT AS PART OF 2025 EXPANSION PLANS

18 December, 2024

Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, is set to invest around £650 million across Britain in 2025.

This includes the development of new stores in Fulham Broadway in London, Billericay in Essex, and Cheadle in Stoke-on-Trent, with the supermarket targeting around 30 new store openings in total in 2025.

This forms part of Aldi’s package of annual investment to accelerate its expansion across Britain’s towns and cities.

The rate of investment in 2025 continues from an equally busy new store opening programme in 2024 with Aldi opening in new locations such as Totton in Hampshire, Cribbs Causeway in Bristol and Pwllheli in Gwynedd in recent weeks.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer, Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “At Aldi, our unwavering commitment has always been to provide Britain with the best value groceries. The demand for our unbeatable prices is now at an all-time high, which gives us the confidence to continue investing in Britain to provide greater access to our award-winning products at the lowest prices.

"We recognise that there are still areas without an Aldi store, so our expansion plans for 2025 are designed to address some of these gaps as we work towards our long-term goal of 1,500 UK stores."

In May, Aldi announced its second pay increase for Aldi store colleagues this year, paying a minimum hourly rate of £12.40 nationally and £13.65 within the M25.
