Aldi is making a change to its fresh chickens from next week as part of its ongoing commitment to animal welfare.
From Wednesday (30th October), shoppers will notice new packaging highlighting higher welfare for all fresh chickens sold at Aldi.
The UK’s fourth largest supermarket has introduced new stocking density requirements for its fresh chicken, improving their quality of life.
It means fresh chickens from Aldi, all of which are sourced from British farms, now have 20% more space than the industry standard.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Animal welfare is of paramount importance to us, and we’ve been working hard with our suppliers to reduce stocking density to help us improve the welfare conditions for chickens.
“We’re already one of the UK’s largest providers of chicken and we’re proud that from next week, we can offer our customers access to higher welfare chicken at our unbeatable Aldi value.”
The launch follows Aldi’s recent announcement that it hit its commitment to sell 100% cage free eggs more than a year ahead of schedule.
