ALDI DONATES MORE THAN 650,000 MEALS TO CHARITIES ACROSS THE UK OVER CHRISTMAS

Aldi has supported charities throughout the UK by donating a record 665,000 meals to people in need this Christmas.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and food banks to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on 24^th and 31^st December.

In total, around 280 tonnes of food were donated to more than 750 UK causes across the country over the festive period.

The donation is Aldi’s largest to date and helped those in need at a time when more people are experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity due to Covid-19.

The festive food donations are part of Aldi’s successful partnership with Neighbourly, a community giving platform that links businesses to charitable organisations. Thanks to this, all of Aldi’s 894 UK stores now donate surplus food to good causes seven days a week, all year round.

Since beginning this partnership in April 2019, Aldi has donated more than 10 million meals across the UK.

Luke Peech, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK, said: “We are proud to have been able to support charitable causes across the country this Christmas, helping to provide warm and healthy festive meals. 

“The feedback has been overwhelming and we’re really pleased to be able to do what we can for those in need within the community in what has been an incredibly tough year for some.”

Steve Butterworth from Neighbourly, added: “This Christmas has been the busiest on record for the nation’s charities and food banks. I’m sure Aldi’s donation has been a lifeline for many over the festive period.”
